About the Party
A people-powered party in the Bull Moose tradition.
A people-powered party in the Bull Moose tradition.
The National Bull Moose Party is a volunteer-run political party. We organize in the tradition of Theodore Roosevelt's 1912 Progressive Party: government that answers to the people, not to money or position.
We meet every other Sunday, publish our bylaws and meeting notes, and build state chapters from the ground up. Anyone who shares our platform is welcome to join, volunteer, or run for office with us.
In 1912, Theodore Roosevelt left the Republican Party and ran for president as the candidate of the new Progressive Party, nicknamed the Bull Moose Party. He won 27.4 percent of the vote and 88 electoral votes, finishing second and ahead of the sitting president, William Howard Taft.
The 1912 platform called for social insurance, an eight-hour workday, protections for working women and children, conservation of natural resources, and strict limits on campaign contributions. More than a century later, those fights are still ours.
